Winnipeg singer/songwriter Katelyn Dawn’s infectious melodies and memorable folk pop/rock music is sure to engage you from the first strum. Putting a heavy emphasis on relatable lyrics and catchy earworm hooks, Dawn will leave you entertained and delighted whether live or on studio recording. As quoted by the Winnipeg Sun, “The heavy hitters can't upstage the hummable melodies and jangly hooks of Dawn's sunny root-pop, most of which wouldn't be out of place next to Sheryl Crow on your playlist”

Dawn’s engaging and laid-back performances are sure to grab your attention while you reflect on the narrative of her music while humming along and enjoying an unforgettable evening!

In addition to self-written material, Dawn also enjoys performing a repertoire of covers from many talented artists, like KT Tunstall, Annie Lennox, Tegan and Sara, a Fine Frenzy and many other brilliant artists in the Folk, Pop and Rock genres.

Influenced by many great female artists of the 90s and 00s like Chantal Kreviazuk, Sarah Mclachlan, Sheryl Crow, and Jewel, Katelyn received her first guitar at the age of 14 and immediately began writing song after song as soon as she learned how to play guitar from an old chord book at her grandparent’s house.  At just 16, Dawn began her studio-recording career. Her first LP “Open Your Eyes” contained all self-written material and was produced by the talented John Paul Peters (Tokyo Police Club, Comeback Kid). The single, “Whatcha Got” received rotation locally on Hot 103.1fm and MIX96, and abroad on Internet radio.

At 18, she recorded her second LP “The Window” with Chris Burke-Gaffney (Chantal Kreviazuk) and Dale Penner (Holly McNarland). She won the “Best Song Of The Month” award at Songwriter Universe Magazine for her song “Socially Awkward”, a song penned about her time in high school.

In 2008 Katelyn auditioned for Canadian Idol and made it through to the top 16 gaining performing chops along the way. After Canadian Idol Katelyn moved to Toronto in a temperamental Dodge Caravan lovingly nicknamed “The Deathmobile” to pursue music there. It was in Toronto she released a self-titled 5-song EP.

Katelyn has performed for the Honey Jam Festival (an association fostering female Canadian artists), NXNE, the Folk Festival Young performers stage, opened for Mobile at the Grand Beach Music Festival, opened for Tom Cochrane and Loverboy at the Summer in the City Festival, as well as performing on the Discovery Channel for a David Suzuki Special called The New Centurions, and has been featured several times on CTV and E-Talk. She has also had many casual and intimate performances at local venues.

Armed with an acoustic guitar, a zest for writing memorable and relatable music, along with experience and charisma, Katelyn Dawn is sure to make your evening and event unforgettable.
